Hallmark Feature: Project-based learning

This redesign effort will transform the school as it becomes fully blended. Teachers will personalize learning by creating individualized learning plans for each student and creating project-based learning opportunities supported by an interdisciplinary curriculum.

  • The educators at Haines will create a personalized education for every student. This will be possible through the use of instructional practices such as the rotational model, small group work, whole class instruction, and interdisciplinary project-based learning.
  • Teachers will use technology as a tool to help students meet and exceed their individual goals, while ensuring that students take ownership of their progress.
  • This redesign builds on a successful project-based learning pilot created during the Summer Design Program and implemented in fall 2013.
  • Haines is a traditional neighborhood school. Its student population is 93 percent low-income. 85 percent Asian and 12 percent African American.
