Building Community
Building Community

When educators design and create new schools, and live next gen learning themselves, they take the lead in growing next gen learning across the nation. Other educators don’t simply follow and adopt; next gen learning depends on personal and community agency—the will to own the change, fueled by the desire to learn from and with others. Networks and policy play important roles in enabling grassroots approaches to change.

Innovative Schools Learning Excursion
Vista Unified | March 22-25, 2020.

Teams of Massachusetts-based educators, parents, students, and community leaders are invited to apply!

> Is your community thinking about making school more relevant and engaging for students?

> Are you curious to see how other school districts have approached innovation?

> Does your community need some inspiration on how school could better prepare all students for success?

Next Generation Learning Challenges and the Barr Foundation invite Massachusetts-based public school teams to apply for the upcoming Innovative Schools Learning Excursion to Vista Unified School District to help school communities—educators, parents, students, and community leaders alike—that are asking these very questions.

The Innovative Schools Learning Excursion will introduce teams to Vista Unified School District in southern California, a district that is redesigning the learning experience for students and has deeply involved its community in the effort.

Teams will be able to apply what they learn from Vista Unified to change how they go about transforming teaching and learning within their own schools and districts.

We invite teams comprised of multiple roles—educators, parents, students, and key community members, such as business leaders, leaders of community organizations, school committee members, local government officials, and more. Each team member has a unique and important contribution to make to improve the learning experience for students, and the program is specifically designed for the mix of perspectives each team member brings.

Tour Mission Vista High School. Meet with students, teachers, and school administrators. Work alongside parents and community members. Deepen your understanding of next generation learning with your team members and become inspired for what's possible in your own communities!

Applications are due Friday, January 24, 2020. A stipend and some meals are provided.

Learn more about the program and access the application form from the Program Overview.

Update, 1/25/2020: The application is now closed.
