Next generation learning is all about everyone in the system—from students through teachers to policymakers—taking charge of their own learning, development, and work. That doesn’t happen by forcing change through mandates and compliance. It happens by creating the environment and the equity of opportunity for everyone in the system to do their best possible work.
This report offers lessons and stories from a year of exploration with 70 schools and districts participating in What Made Them So Prepared?, a collaborative project of nine organizations that support student-centered learning in schools and districts across the U.S. The partners found three key factors that served participating schools and districts well, aiding in their response to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic: symmetric, forward-leaning orientation, healthy culture, and strong and flexible systems.
